Mountmakers in Conversation

In this two-part series, our guild members were introduced to the complex and challenging world of Mountmaking. First, in April 2022, our speakers Denise Fordham and Harvey Newman walked us through the decision-making, planning, measuring, and fabricating of their custom mounts, via zoom presentation. Then the following month, we were given a private tour of Denise's impressive workshop. Here, we learned how she fabricates some of her own tools when needed, how she bends and welds her materials, the wonderful things that can be done with magnets, and how closely she works with conservators and other allied professionals to give the artworks in her care their best possible outcome.
