Sunny Friday at Skywalker Ranch

On a hot and sunny May Friday, twenty BAACG members were treated to a rare visit to Skywalker Ranch in Nicasio, California. We were first toured through the "Main House" - creative home to many of George Lucas' iconic films - by the Ranch's welcoming and uber-knowledgeable Research Librarians. On view in the building are a smattering of fun movie props and a few of the hundreds of awards Mr. Lucas has received over his remarkable career. And thanks to Mr. Lucas' love of fine art and furnishings, especially of the Art Nouveau period, this Victorian-style house is resplendent with paintings, furniture, and even light fixtures that had guild members of every specialty jaw-dropped. I'm not sure the staff have ever had such an appreciative audience!

Once we could tear ourselves away from the museum that is the Main House, we walked across the gorgeous property to enjoy lunch at the Ranch's Fitness Center. Tucked into this building is a small gift shop, which kindly stayed open late as our large group took turns making purchases of Ranch swag that cannot be bought anywhere else. Finally, following the strict photography rules of this private property, we took a few group photos to remember the day by.

This was not only a wonderful site visit, it was also a much appreciated social event. As one board member put it, "There was time to really talk to each other. You could have conversations with different people while touring, then on the walk, then eating lunch and shopping. It was a stellar event all around!"

BAACG is extremely grateful to the staff of Skywalker Ranch who made this day possible.
