About the event
Please join your fellow BAACG members and bring friends and family for a tour and behind the scenes look at San Francisco’s Fire Museum and Safety Learning Center  located at 665 Presidio Ave, San Francisco.  Learn more about the  history of San Francisco's First Responders and visit this city gem filled with historic treasures visitors won’t see anywhere else!Â
Guardians of the City (GOTC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of San Francisco’s First Responders. The GOTC First Responders Museum was founded as the San Francisco Fire Department Museum in 1964. It houses a wonderful collection of artifacts, beginning with the Gold Rush-era Volunteer Fire Dept through to the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and beyond. Their collection of beautiful antique fire engines showcases the craftsmanship and traditions of the SFFD. They also hold many personal items related to the legendary Lillie Hitchcock Coit.  When the SFFD Museum recently transitioned to the GOTC Museum, they added displays focused on the SF Police Dept’s Mounted Unit, the history of the SF Sheriff’s Office, and SF Emergency Medical Services, highlighting the 1970s-1990s.
The small, but mighty, GOTC Museum is filled with historic treasures, run by a dedicated staff of volunteers and is free to the public.  A small gift shop  helps support operations.
